我要看到我的脸! 我要看到我的脸! 我要看到我的脸! haha.. how come my face is not in any of the pictures?? :)
The reason is.... I had not been turning up for the recent gatherings organized by Desmond and Co. Hahaha, anyway it may be a blessing in disguise for me!!! Everytime they organize outing sure rain one! JOkes aside, I always believe that youth SBHL is like one close family. Although we do not have the large numbers of volunteers compared to other RSPs, I believed that we are like a close family whereby members are closely knitted to one another. So i actually feel quite bad not being able to turn up for gatherings organized by Desmond... lol, so desmond stop suaning me okie??? ;)
Nevertheless, I did attend session today hrmmm yesterday i mean!! haha.. Attending session is like a routine to me after 2 years le.. But i always enjoy toking cock with the boys.. giving them a lighter touch of what's life and how meaningful and enjoyable life can be. Today, like any other sessions, teaching them maths or any other subjects is realli realli tough. Their attention span is so short.... BUt can't be helped la.. come on life is not about studying lo.. hahaha..
okie... as usual i am super tired le.. I will like to end of using a quote from an email sebt to me by my friend:-
"We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things."

Here is the promised second part of that day's events. As I've mentioned earlier, it was raining when i had to go for the talk. In actual fact, it was raining for the whole day. Of course, this fact was lost on us when we were sitting in the comfort of the conference hall and happily listening to the talk. It was however much more difficult to simply dismiss Mother Nature when she's insistently tapping on our heads.
Of course, this was not without its rewards. The reason we were out in the rain without our umbrellas was because we had gone to watch the fireworks display for the Singapore Fireworks Festival. And what a pretty display that was. The display was 15 minutes long, choreographed by a Korean company and set to Korean music, some of which were from some drama serials (no doubt many would recognize "Da Chang Jing" ["Jewel In The Palace" in English] and the "Wu La La" singing). This is a link to the video:

Unfortunately, you need to be a member of the facebook group to admire Yean Sang's masterful video-taking skills.
And you know, after a while, we decided we like the rain after all. In fact, we liked it so much we decided we would eat at Makan Sutra and soak in all the rain. Here's a photo as proof:
The reason there wasn't any food on the table was because we haven't bought it yet. Oh well, to be honest we didn't eat there in the end, because the rain was getting a bit too heavy and instead ate at a nearby restaurant called Urban East or something. The food wasn't bad but their service left quite a bit to be desired. But by then everybody was a bit crazy and high so we really enjoyed ourselves. In fact, we almost made it an overnight trip yet again. If only there wasn't the recce mission the next day.

Let me start off this blog entry with a complaint. Who wrote that SBHL stands for Super Buzzling & Happening Land? I object. That sounds so teenage girlish. Actually I bet I know who thought of that. Huimin!

That was the message that Dr William Tan, a neurosurgeon and holder of the Guiness record for completing 7 marathons across 7 continents in 27 days had to share. And one could see from his video and the tidbits of his life that he shared that it was also the way he lived. Here is a photo that we took with him.
And here you see what I have yet to mention and one would never have guessed at.
Dr William Tan, born in 1957, was afflicted with polio at the age of 2. This disease left him permanently crippled from waist down. Such a physical handicap would have left another man defeated but Dr William rose above his limitations. He refused to be daunted and set out to prove that he was above whatever challenges lay in his path. He was also a man who dared to dream. In 1980, when people around him all told him it would be impossible, he became the first Singaporean who was paraplegic to complete a marathon. This was the event that started his career in marathons. It also inspired many others with similar physical handicaps to emulate him. The Guiness record was also another of his dreams, one he had spent the last 3 years pursuing. And despite achieving all that, he continues to dream big. He reveals he has set his sights on further ventures.
Meeting with and listening to Dr Tan has left me very much in awe and at the same time deeply humbled. Here is proof that the human spirit is truly indomitable. And there's able-bodied me who's fat, lazy and almost wanted to skip this because of a bit of rain thinking its another silly little speech by some random person. I am so glad I went.
Next post about our volunteer's bonding session on that same day as soon as I can write it.
Fred
hey! finally our first ever boys' hostel blog is up! i'm so so so excited about this. credits to Nicole for choosing a nice skin and Desmond for helping with html!! =)
first of all, let me start off by blogging about the session we had last thurs.
as usual, i ended lecture at about 6.30pm and rushed to cant A to meet up with the rest. to my surprise, i only saw Yean Sang there! after that i realised that Nicole and Desmond were actually at the table behind us 'busy-ing' with some interview stuffs. so me and Yean Sang ended up eating Mcd and gosh, the Mcspicy i had was super spicy loh! oops i think i have digressed quite a bit. well, after that Fred and Sherry joined us and we set off at about 7.20pm.( but we were still late by about 5 minutes.) LOL.
as usual, all of us went to tutor the boys in their academic work while Desmond went to have a meeting with the person-in-charge Mr Lim. but something quite special that happened to me on that day was, the boys whom i was attending to were not doing their work. instead, we ended up chit-chatting throughout the whole session. zz.
some of the boys are actually having their 'N' and 'O' level examination this year and it's most pleasing to see them working hard. for instance on that day, other than the 3boys whom i was chit-chatting with, i saw Nicole, Sherri, Fred and Yean Sang being engrossed in tutoring the boys, and from the boys' expressions, i could tell that they were putting in effort too! don't you all think this gives tremendous satisfaction to all of us??! =)
after the session ended, we went to the nearby food court to have our so called 'debriefing session' cos Desmond wanted to discuss something with all of us. it was about improving on the current programs( hmm can't disclose much here). we spent more than 2 hours there discussing and it went a little heated, especially between xxx and xxx. haha!
however, at the end we managed to come up with a win-win solution and we're gonna try it out in our upcoming session. hopefully it works!!!
i think all of us arrived home at about 12 plus that day. tired yet satisfactory. i'm sure all of our volunteers would find that it's all worth it! for the boys, we dare! and we chiong too!! =P
millions thanks to all the volunteers for staying back late for the discussion.
yup pardon me for this long entry. that's the end of my summary. whose turn next??!
c u guys next thurs! =D
