Rain and Pretty Lights (23rd August 2008)

Here is the promised second part of that day's events. As I've mentioned earlier, it was raining when i had to go for the talk. In actual fact, it was raining for the whole day. Of course, this fact was lost on us when we were sitting in the comfort of the conference hall and happily listening to the talk. It was however much more difficult to simply dismiss Mother Nature when she's insistently tapping on our heads.

Of course, this was not without its rewards. The reason we were out in the rain without our umbrellas was because we had gone to watch the fireworks display for the Singapore Fireworks Festival. And what a pretty display that was. The display was 15 minutes long, choreographed by a Korean company and set to Korean music, some of which were from some drama serials (no doubt many would recognize "Da Chang Jing" ["Jewel In The Palace" in English] and the "Wu La La" singing). This is a link to the video:

Unfortunately, you need to be a member of the facebook group to admire Yean Sang's masterful video-taking skills.

And you know, after a while, we decided we like the rain after all. In fact, we liked it so much we decided we would eat at Makan Sutra and soak in all the rain. Here's a photo as proof:

The reason there wasn't any food on the table was because we haven't bought it yet. Oh well, to be honest we didn't eat there in the end, because the rain was getting a bit too heavy and instead ate at a nearby restaurant called Urban East or something. The food wasn't bad but their service left quite a bit to be desired. But by then everybody was a bit crazy and high so we really enjoyed ourselves. In fact, we almost made it an overnight trip yet again. If only there wasn't the recce mission the next day.
